About Archdevil

Archdevil

Archdevils are unique devils that are known to be some of the most powerful in existence. Of those, the archdukes (by nature demigods) are known as the high lords of the Nine Hells of Baator, and they are referred to as the archdevils stricto sensu (in the strict sense of the term). Baator is described as the plane of evil that, contrary to the Abyss, is ruled by way of institutional iniquity and has a highly structured caste system. It could be said that it's the embodiment of lawful evil.

Each of the lords is specifically assigned to a layer of the hells and according to a rank. The lord that rules over the first layer, Zariel, is the lesser of the nine, while Asmodeus is the Lord of the Ninth (also called Nessus) and hailed as the Prince of Darkness. Tiamat used to rule the first layer (Avernus) until Asmodeus demoted her due to her poor performance in preventing outcast devils from rising.

Devils and demons are sometimes used as interchangeable terms, but demons, in contrast to devils, are chaotic evil creatures that reside in the Abyss, meaning that they have no structured organization system. These two races have waged a war called the Blood War, which ended officially with the deification of Asmodeus as the prime evil.

There is no defined physical attribute ascribed to archdevils, as many of them may change forms at will. Furthermore, some of them display more bestial features, such as the dragon goddess Tiamat, while others have more prominent humanoid traits, like Zariel. In any case, as demigods, the archdukes possess enormous god-like powers, with varying degrees according to their rank. They could cast spells or grant magical powers to their worshippers, as well as create and send avatars to the material plane. Asmodeus, for example, had the ability to instill fear in his opponents, rendering them physically weak for combat, and his voice had the power of suggestion, making people docile to his commands for long periods.

Therefore, a game could be going on for months or even years, leaving the players with an option to meet up whenever they like and take up the adventure where they left off. Even though the group might fall in the battles with invincible creatures, there can be no losers in the game. All players are considered winners, as long as everyone had fun creating unforgettable storylines and enduring experiences.

Considering that Dungeons & Dragons is a role-playing game, each player lies with a task to truly embody the character they are playing. The character that each player chooses, forms the essence of the game for them. To start off the character creation, it is wise for a player to acknowledge which kind of adventurer they want to portray. Considering this, a player should choose themselves a race, for example, a dwarf or a gnome, which is followed by a class, like a fighter or a barbarian. Each race has its own strengths and weaknesses, as well as racial traits.

Every player has the chance to demonstrate their imagination by choosing the name for their character.
