One of the most subtle-behaving and forgiving species, Locathah is surely an interesting Dungeons and Dragons character that you must know about. Locathahs are fish-like humanoids also termed as gill-men, fish-men, or kaparl.
Locathahs are not quite dangerous when unarmed as they don't have claws, teeth, or any other natural weapons. They mostly turn and run away when weaponless. Their crossbow range increases by around 20 feet underwater and fights with locathahs involve them loosing volleys of bolts from their crossbows. If they set up a trap or an ambush, they keep crossbowing for as long as possible, while using their longspears otherwise. Their long spears are mainly used for fishing, but they surely make strong weapons.
Locathah love deeper water and mostly live in warm coastal sea waters. However, locathas tribes have adapted themselves to shallow water living as their former captors used to live in such places. The nomadic ones live south of Impiltur and west of Thesk in the Bymmalyn Hills, but some live on the slopes of the Hmur Plateau. They also use the slopes to protect themselves against the the kuo-toa and the morkoth. A large bunch of locathahs was found under the waves of the Crowded Sea, while small groups inhabited some port cities of Zakhara.
Despite the fact that locathas are humanoid in shape, they clearly sport more of a fish-like appearance than humans. The average height remains around 5 feet and they usually weigh around 175 pounds. The male and female species look very much alike, but the females feature have ochre stripes marking the egg sacs.
This species has been enslaved by almost all races of the Sea of Fallen Stars, specially by the ixitxachitl and kuo-toa. Locathahs always flee or fight if approached by a creature who wields a weapon. They prefer not to be touched by other races or species and always interact with others from a distance. Locathahs never develop vengeful or angry feelings towards their captors even when treated with the cruelty.
