About Tortle

Tortle

You might have guessed it, tortle sounds like turtle, and that's what tortles look like!

Tortles are reptilian-looking tortoises with leathery skin and shells that cover their backs and bellies. Their back are usually darker than their skin, but their front shells are lighter and have a yellowish hue. A Tortle stands just under 6 feet tall and weighs over 750 pounds as an adult.

Tortles could float on water and hold their breath for almost an hour, despite their poor swimming abilities. They had a low tolerance for cold and, as winter approached, they migrated away to warmer climates.

For the first several weeks of their lives, Tortle crawl. Tortles are supposed to fend for themselves once they have learned to walk on two legs. Most tortles believe that their homes are on their backs, therefore they rarely feel homesick or the urge to establish roots in one spot. Because of this, there aren't many tortle towns to speak of. They're perfectly capable of constructing permanent residences, but they don't see the point in doing so until their later years.

Tortles reach maturity at the age of 40 and have a lifespan of 365 years. What many tortles consider a simple life of slowly wandering around, others might call a life of adventure.
